At the Martial Arts Academy, our mission is to strive towards the total development of the individual into a well rounded and responsible person. The curriculum will help the student learn to balance physical challenges, mental stress, and emotional conflict. We accomplish this through teaching and reinforcing the principles of respect, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, patience, and humility. HealthQuest Martial Arts has chosen a unique and refreshing approach to Martial Arts instruction. The core of our style is Tae Kwon Do, but includes materials from a variety of martial arts. The student will develop core strength, endurance, balance and flexibility while improving self confidence and self control.
Martial Arts Levels
This class covers the introduction of Martial Arts on an advanced level. Students will be expected to perform all necessary requirements while showing a high level of self-control. There is no sparring in this class. Emphasis will be placed on physical fitness, forms and self-defense.

Attire and Rank Advancement
Students must only wear approved uniforms that are clean and in good repair. Females may only wear t-shirts under their uniforms. Students must have trimmed nails and long hair must be neatly secured. No jewelry of any kind is permitted. Bare feet are only permitted in the practice area.
All students are required to wear a white karate uniform. Uniforms can be purchased at HealthQuest for $40 plus tax. Students who spar (green belt & above) are required to use HealthQuest approved sparring equipment. This consists of headgear, mouthpiece, hand gear, foot gear, chest gear and groin protection for boys and men. All uniforms and equipment is to be purchased through the Program Desk or Front Desk.
Progress is measured by the award of color belts in accordance with the knowledge, skill, time and effort the student has dedicated to the program. Additionally, to mark progress between scheduled belt testing, the student will be awarded belt stripes as each new skill is mastered.
Belts are awarded quarterly during testing events. There will be a $40 fee for any student that is testing. To achieve a higher rank belt, the student must attend a minimum number of classes, learn factual Martial Arts knowledge relative to their age and belt level, and demonstrate appropriate self-defense moves and form.
HealthQuest is extremely fortunate to have one of the five highest ranked and most respected Kokika Aikido Instructors in the world. This high quality instruction is offered to both members and non-members.
Aikido principles focus on coordinating mind and body by learning to be relaxed and centered. As students train, they develop calmness, grace and strength under pressure. They are able to achieve clarity and react calmly. Their newfound strength allows them to defend against much larger attackers. Self-defense techniques are performed efficiently and effectively. Minimum effort results in maximum effect.
Aikido teaches self-defense against both single and multiple attackers. All attacks (grabs, punches, kicks, and weapons) have a weak or blind spot. We move to these weak spots, upset the attackers balance, and use techniques to establish control.
Learning to relax, to develop a coordinated mind and body, to defend yourself, to develop confidence, to develop discipline, are all reasons to begin practice. Students remark at how applying these principles helps them in every day life.
All HQ members are welcome to watch and try our class. Begin Aikido and experience your most powerful state when mind and body act together.
