Tai Chi is a slow ancient form of medicine, martial arts and exercise. All members are invited to attend classes.
Originally developed as a style of self defense, it became the most deadly fighting system in China based on the effective martial uses of the “acupuncture points.” Today it is used as a way of strengthening our immune system, increasing our balance and reducing stress.
When practicing Tai Chi and QiGong, you focus on movement, visualization and breathing. This combination creates a state of relaxation and calm that massages all the internal organs. Tai Chi promotes the flow of subtle energy through our bodies. When the flow is blocked our health diminishes, we have less energy and we get sick more often. The most common way energy gets blocked is internal unmanaged stress. Most of our emotional, mental and physical problems can be traced back to stress. By going through the slow motion movements of Tai Chi and the relaxing images of QiGong, it allows the body to let go of tension or stress that blocks the energy flow.
As we age, we begin to squeeze off the flow of life’s energy, we tend to hold fears and grudges, we hold our muscle tension, our hearts work harder and our bodies wear out prematurely. When we practice Tai Chi and learn to relax, we let the healing energy flow throughout our mind and body.
Our classes teach the Traditional Yang Style Tai Chi long and short forms. The QiGong exercises prepare the mind and body to totally relax. Everyone learns these forms at their own pace without pressure. You will find with practice better flexibility, balance, lower body strength and coordination with this slow moving style. It is a learning experience promoting relaxation and well-being.
